Police are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to find out why a 40-year-old woman was killed in a model home on Saturday afternoon and who killed her.

McKinney Police Capt. Randy Roland said Sarah Anne Walker of McKinney was found dead in the kitchen of a model home on the 5700 block of Conch Train Road in the Hemingway at Craig Ranch community where she worked for D.R. Horton as a sales representative.

Walker had 27 stab wounds on her upper body that were made by a “sharp bladed instrument,” according to Collin County Medical Examiner Dr. William Rohr's preliminary report. Roland said police have not found the murder weapon.

Walker sustained stab wounds on her upper torso and back. Wounds on her hands and arms indicated there was a struggle and that she tried to defend herself during the attack, Roland said.

She also suffered from blunt-force trauma, Roland said.

A couple looking for information on homes in the neighborhood found Walker's body at about 1:23 p.m. Saturday in the kitchen of the model home. They called 9-1-1 and reported that a woman had suffered “very serious injuries.” McKinney police and fire crews found her dead when they arrived at the scene. Roland said he did not know the name of the people who found the body, but noted “they were pretty much in shock.”

Police do not have a suspect or a motive for the murder, but Roland said they are gathering clues at the scene and interviewing witnesses and acquaintances of Walker to try and determine the nature and details of the attack.

“Right now, we're taking an inventory [of the model home] and things Walker had on her,” Roland said. “We won't finish the evidence-gathering until late into the evening.

“The family is helping us piece together who she saw outside of work and what kind of person she was, and create a picture of who she was outside of work,” Roland said. “The evidence technicians are trying to recreate what happened inside the crime scene.”

Joseph Walker of Greenville, Sarah's father, said his family is shocked about his daughter's death.

“The whole family is devastated over this thing that's happened with Sarah,” he said. “I have no idea why it happened or how it happened, and I couldn't give any information. But I've been racking my brain because it just seems so senseless.”

He described his oldest daughter as a “very highly motivated and very successful” person.

“She was often the No. 1 salesperson for the real-estate company that she worked for,” he said. “I think she was their top salesperson.”

Her sister, Jackie Walker-Mill, also said she was a very sweet and caring person who loved her parents and siblings, her ex-husband, Randy, and her 3-year-old son, Josh, with all of her heart.

“Sarah was a bright, beautiful lady who achieved her goals that led to many successes in every part of her life,” Walker-Mill said by e-mail. “We want her to be remembered as happy, fun-loving, giving, a wonderful mother and at the hour of her death, an incredibly courageous human being.”

Funeral arrangements are still pending for Sarah Walker, her father said. He said he has not decided if the funeral will take place in Dallas or Greenville.

He said his church community has rallied around the family to pray for them. He asked the community to pray not only for his daughter, but also for Sarah's killer.

“We need to pray for whoever did this for divine mercy and to forgive that person and I believe that,” Joseph Walker said. “I truly believe that.”

Sarah Walker's death marks the second murder in McKinney this year. Thirty-five-year-old Crystal Benavidez of McKinney was fatally shot by her ex-husband, 51-year-old Josely Medellin of Fort Worth, on Jan. 5 in a field east of Medical Center of McKinney. Benavidez died at the scene, and Medellin died a few minutes later at the hospital after he turned the gun on himself, according to McKinney Courier-Gazette archives.
