Walker laid to rest

McKinney Courier-Gazette/Robert James Hughes Mourners exit St. Monica's Catholic Church in North Dallas following Sarah Anne Walker's funeral Thursday.

(July 14, 2006) Pastor Paul Weinberger of St. Williams Catholic Church said Sarah Anne Walker's father, Joe, interrupted his comments at a rosary service Wednesday night at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home.

“Joe interrupted...because he wanted to be heard,” Weinberger said.

Weinberger said Mr. Walker wanted everyone who attended Mrs. Walker's funeral Thursday at St. Monica's Catholic Church in North Dallas to not just to pray for him, his family and his daughter, but also for whoever took her life.

“He said we need to pray for Sarah Anne,” Weinberger said. “But we also need to pray for the person who did this...for their conversion.”

Forty-year-old Walker was found dead at 1:23 p.m. Saturday, lying face down in the kitchen of a model home in the 5700 block of Conch Train Road where she worked as a real estate sales representative for D.R. Horton.

Dr. William Rohr, Collin County medical examiner, said Walker was stabbed 27 times with a sharp bladed instrument with wounds on her upper body, arms and hands and suffered some blunt force trauma. McKinney Police Capt. Randy Roland said police are still gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses, but they have not established a motive or suspect in Walker's death.

Approximately 200 people attended Walker's funeral. Those who attended the service filled up most of the church's pews. Before and after the service, everyone from family members to co-workers to close friends stood outside the church.

The church was quiet for almost the entire service, but a hint of confusion hung in the air: confusion for why someone would want to harm Sarah.

The sounds of crying didn't echo through the chapel, but they could be heard in voices as verses from the Bible were read.

Weinberger said he believes Mr. Walker and his family are still reeling from the pain of losing Sarah in a way that Joe described as “senseless.” But Weinberger said he also believes they are coping through it as best they can because of their faith, particularly through Mr. Walker's prayers with the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, a special rosary prayer.

“He's prayed for so long, Joe actually believes this stuff,” Weinberger said. “He believes Jesus wants his mercy to be extended to all.

“I have been to a lot of funerals, but I've never heard such a profound belief in Christ as I did last night,” Weinberger later said.

Jackie Walker, Sarah's sister, said a memorial fund has been set up in her sister's name at Bank of America. Donations can be made to the Sarah Walker Memorial account at any Bank of America branch.

D.R. Horton has also set up a “Sarah Walker Fund” to collect donations to cover appropriate funeral costs for the family and for her 4-year-old son Josh. Donations can be made by check payable to D.R. Horton, Inc./Sarah Walker Fund and can be mailed to D.R. Horton, Inc., Sarah Walker Fund, c/p Paula Hunter-Perkins, 301 Commerce St., Suite 500, Fort Worth, Tex. 76102.

" I am a personal friend of Mr. Joseph Walker and I can attest to the fact that he is very sincere about praying for the person who took his daughter's life. In the Lord's prayer we ask to be forgiven for our trespasses "AS" we forgive those who trespass against us. Needless to say, Mr. Walker takes these words very seriously. "

" To Joe, Carol, and Jackie, I am extremely saddened and shocked by the terrible news about Sarah. I can't imangine the pain you are going through. Sarah was my neice when I was married to her uncle, Dale. Sarah was always a beautiful girl and will be sadly missed. The cute thing I remember about Sarah is, when she stayed at my house with her mother, Carol, I had a brown pillow and Sarah always called it her "chocolate pillow" and wanted that pillow when she came over.God bless the Walker family! Aunt, Sue "

" I live in Alabama but a friend told me about this senseless, horrible murder. I want to commend Joe Walker for having faith in God. Prayer really does work! And God really does listen. If more people had faith in prayer, their life would go so much smoother. My brother was viciously addicted to crack cocaine, I prayed and asked God to work a miracle in his drug addicted life. I noticed his personality has changed as of late, and found out just today he is no longer on crack. I prayed for him over and over. Anyone who knows drugs, knows, crack is not easy to walk away from. But he did it. I know for a fact he had no help, he lives with my father, and he has not been to any treatment centers. "
