Volunteer McKinney Center
*Share music or stories with senior citizens. Kingsley Place Assisted Living center is seeking musicians, storytellers, or other performers to share their passion with residents for 30 to 45 minutes. A piano is available but other instruments should be brought by the musician. Residents also enjoy hearing volunteers tell about a trip, a life experience, a hobby or a book. Also, male country dancers are needed at 1:30 p.m. Mondays. On the VMC Web site, use keyword, “Kingsley Place” to find additional information.
*Activities assistant. Also at Kingsley Place. Duties would including helping with activities such as book reviews, working large print crossword puzzles, discussions, talent shows, storytelling, etc. A person who desires to work with senior citizens and likes to have fun would enjoy this position. The city of Plano is looking for volunteers to add their names to the Language Bank, which calls on translators to communicate with Plano citizens who do not speak English. The Language Bank has been useful in the courts, police and fire departments, and in translating documents. Languages needed include Romanian, Russian, Kurdish, Japanese, Bosnian, Turkish, Arabic, Portuguese and others..

The Collin County Historical Museum would love to hear from potential volunteers who are woodworkers, trim carpenters or cabinetmakers. They have the occasional need for someone to do small construction or fabrication projects for museum exhibits such as cubes or boxes, platforms, backdrops, casework and partition walls. Facilitator training

Journey of Hope Grief Support Center, which provides support for children, teens and their families as they learn to mourn the death of their loved one, is seeking grief facilitators. Volunteers will complete training to become a facilitator of grief.
