Kyle Lackey receives probation
BY DANNY GALLAGHER, McKinney Courier-Gazette
A McKinney man accused of storing over 2,000 sexually explicit images of children on his office computer in Richardson, who was found in Tucson, Ariz., before police filed a warrant and failed to appear for his plea hearing, received a probated sentence last Friday.
Kyle Leslie Lackey, 43, of McKinney, reached a plea deal with Collin County prosecutors Friday in 366th District Court on his third-degree felony charge of possession of child pornography.
Collin County spokesman Tim Wyatt said Lackey will be placed on 10 years probation and he will have to register as a sex offender. He said if Lackey violates the terms of his probation, he could face a possible sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
Richardson police Sgt. Kevin Perlich said Lackey's employer, Fujitsu Services, first notified Richardson police about the images on one of their computers on Dec. 12, 2005.
Perlich said a co-worker suspicious of Lackey's actions contacted his superiors and the company examined his computer. When the company found several “inappropriate” images on his hard drive, they contacted local authorities, who seized the computer and turned it over to an FBI computer forensics lab, which found over 2,000 explicit images of “pre-adolescent children” on it.
Lackey wasn't arrested until Sept. 24, 2006, when Tucson police officers spotted him entering a bar and recognized him from a wanted poster distributed by the National Crime Information Center during a morning briefing.
He failed to appear for a plea hearing Feb. 1 in 366th District Court, so officials issued a second warrant and a bond forfeiture against him. Frisco police officials arrested Lackey on Feb. 21 and returned him to the Collin County Detention Center.
