Lawyers should enjoy the lawyers lounge that opened on Friday at the new Collin County Courthouse. They paid for it
Lawyers from different Collin County law firms celebrated the opening by stopping by the lounge to acknowledge the various lawyers and law firms that privately funded the room. More than 35 lawyers and law firms contributed more than $45,000 to furnish and equip the lounge.
Sharon Easley of Easley and Marquis believes the lounge will benefit lawyers who stay at the courthouse between hearings by providing them a place to work when they are unable to get to their offices.
The old courthouse did not have a lounge, but putting one in at the new courthouse was always in the plans.
“We haven’t had a lounge in many, many, many years, I believe it’s been almost 15 years, but there was always a plan to have an attorney lounge in the new courthouse.” Easley said.
Representatives from various law firms formed a committee in mid-August to begin working on furnishing and equipping the lounge. The room features a copier, scanner and fax machine, along with a television and furniture such as tables and couches. County commissioners made wireless access available to everyone who uses the lounge.
Easley figured that most of the money raised was spent.
“After all was said and done, we spent almost $40,000 on everything from the furniture to the copier/scanner/fax machine. That thing was not cheap.”
Private funds will also be used to maintain the lounge.
Easley made sure to thank everyone who contributed their time and money.
“Everyone here is very, very appreciative of the county commissioners for making this available and for the funds that went into it,” she said. “The lounge can be used by any attorney that is practicing here. This is going to make it easier for lawyers to be able to better serve their clients.”
