Police search for third man in deadly crime spree

Published: Monday, December 17, 2007 3:43 PM CST
Dallas and Carrollton police continue searching for a third person suspected of involvement in a three-hour murder and robbery spree Saturday night. Police believe the suspect is a black man, said Sgt. John Singleton, spokesperson for the Carrollton Police Department.

Police have arrested two suspects so far. Petrie Robinson, 18, and Jonathan McCullough, 17, both from Dallas, are each suspected of capital murder and four counts of aggravated robbery, according to police reports.

“(Robinson is) off the streets for a long, long time,” said Tom Reedy, spokesperson for the Denton County Jail, where Robinson is being detained. “This is capital murder.”

Robinson and McCullough were also arrested in October in Carrollton on suspicion of evading arrest. They were arrested with a third man, Troydric Williams, 18, of Little Elm, when they entered the home at 1806 Post Oak Lane in Carrollton. The home was found stocked with 400 pounds of cocaine, $1.5 million in cash and nine guns the week prior. Singleton said Robinson, McCullough and Williams may have entered the home looking for any remaining drugs.

Williams is a suspect in the weekend’s crimes, Singleton said.

The crimes committed late Saturday and early Sunday occurred in Carrollton and Dallas.

The spree began at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, when three black males entered a home at Ballantrae Springs Apartments, 2100 block of Marsh Lane in Carrollton, Singleton said. The three left with a gray 2005 Ford Mustang and a silver 1999 Infiniti, he said.

The second crime occurred at 1:30 a.m. Sunday when police say the same suspects stopped a car at the 11000 block of Harry Hines, according to a Dallas police report. The driver was robbed at gunpoint and the three suspects drove off in his black Dodge Durango with the driver’s nephew still in the car.

Atanael Campos Lara, the nephew, was found dead next to the passenger side of the vehicle shortly afterward, according to Dallas police reports.

Then, police believe the three suspects returned to Carrollton at about 2:45 a.m. and robbed two men who were trying to fix their broken down vehicle, Singleton said. The victims were robbed at gunpoint at a carwash at Rosemeade Parkway and Marsh Lane, Singleton said.

Neither of the victims were hurt, Singleton said. The suspects took personal property from the two men at the carwash, he said.

The last crime police believe the three men committed was a robbery around 3 a.m. at City Limits Apartments, 18809 Lina in Dallas. Several residents were robbed, according to police reports.

Early Sunday morning, Carrollton police officers located Robinson and the 1999 silver Infiniti near 18809 Lina in Dallas and took him into custody. Robinson is being detained at the Denton County Jail.

McCullough was found later on Sunday and is being detained at Lew Sterrett Justice Center in Dallas.
