Plano resident and Dallas Police Officer Senior Cpl. Victor Lozada died Friday while escorting Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to a rally in Oak Cliff.

The motorcade was traveling on Houston Street in downtown Dallas, not far from where President John Kennedy was assassinated, when Lozada’s motorcycle struck a curb and crashed. He was transported to Methodist Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Lozada was a 20-year veteran of the department.

“I just learned of the death of a Dallas Police officer in a devastating accident that occurred as these motorcycles officers were leading our cars to this site,” Clinton stated at 10:30 a.m. “We are just heartsick over this loss of life and I have asked that my condolences be conveyed to the family.”

Clinton cancelled her rallys scheduled for Friday and met the family at the hospital.

“This reminds us, once again, what our men and women in law enforcement do every single day and it is important that we have respect and appreciate their service,” she said. “I certainly am grateful for all they do for me and, more importantly, what they do for citizens in cities like Dallas and others across our country.”

Plano Public Information Officer Rick McDonald said the department will be available for anything Dallas may need.

“With him living in our city, the Plano Police will immediately do anything Dallas may need,” said Rick McDonald, Plano Police Department public information officer. “It’s a sad, sad situation.”

Dallas Police officers surrounded Lozada’s home to protect the family and provide assistance. Police officers said they will escort the family wherever they need to go and pick up family members and friends at the airport.

“They are a really close-knit family,” said neighbor Stacey Stagich. “He was really into sports with his kids. He coached his son’s soccer team.”

Stagich said Lozada would dress up for Halloween and go trick or treating with the kids.

“It’s a real shame,” Stagich said. “If you needed anything, he was always right there.”

Lozada is survived by his wife and four children.

“I just want to express my deepest condolences to the family and to the Dallas Police Department on this tragic, tragic loss,” Clinton said.
