MHS Manufacturing Team Takes Third at Nationals
By staff reports
“TALUS,” a toy robot designed by a team of students from Mesquite High School, was awarded third place in a national competition. The award came in the category of Manufacturing Prototype at the National Technology Student Association (TSA) Conference held recently in Orlando, Florida.
Participants design and manufacture a prototype of a product and provide a description of how the product could be manufactured in a state-of-the-art American industry. The theme for 2008 was to develop a TSA related action figure.
The Mesquite ISD team developed a robot toy by the name of TALOS. The left fist actually has a firing mechanism developed by the team.
Participants also are required to design, create and launch a web site that features the school's technology education program, the TSA chapter, and research about a cutting edge technological topic. Pre-conference finalists participate in an on-site interview.
TALUS team members: Cody Clark1, Ray Pena, Ana Bacus, and Chelsea Windes.
Two other members also earned awards at the event. Daniel D'Augustine and Marvin Pimentel placed in the Cyberspace Pursuit semi finals. The team is lead by Mesquite High School teacher Ricky Broussard.
