Rowlett sees rash of daytime burglaries

Two would-be burglars are on the loose on the east side of Rowlett, kicking in doors in broad daylight, but fleeing when they discover their would-be victims are at home.
In the last two weeks, five such incidents have been reported on the east side of town including the most recent one reported in the area north of Wal-Mart.
So far, no one has been injured during these invasions, and nothing has been reported stolen.
Both suspects in these burglaries are described as black males. One suspect is described as an 18 year old, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, about 130 pounds with short black hair. In at least one incident, he wearing black cut-off shorts. The second suspect is described as about 16 years old, 5 feet, 6 inches and thing. He has black hair worn in medium corn rows. In one case, he was a white tank top and white checker shorts, Rowlett police said.
In the latest break-in, one was wearing a yellow hoodie, according to Rowlett police
The suspect were driving a late model white vehicle possibly an Acura or Honda with dark-tinted windows.
Police say these subjects may be working together or alone.
With these crimes in mind, the Rowlett Police Department are reminding residents to take the following security measures:
• Install solid-core doors, heavy-duty locks, and window security devices;
• Lock all doors, windows, and garages at all times;
• Use four 3-inch screws to secure heavy-duty lock strike plates in the door frame;
• Use the door peephole before opening the door;
• Never rely on a chain latch as a barrier to partially open the door;
• Never open the door to strangers or solicitors;
• Call the police immediately before calling anyone else if the stranger acts suspicious;
• Alert your neighbors to suspicious solicitors;
• Hold a family meeting to discuss home security plans; and
• Set the home perimeter alarm, if you have one
