Carroll’s Wasson says game with North Shore still on
By RICKY MOORE/Staff Writer
Despite rumors and chatter on the internet, Carroll football coach Hal Wasson confirmed Saturday morning that the Dragons game with Galena Park North Shore, set for 6 p.m. Saturday at Dragon Stadium, will go on.
“I talked to their coach this morning and they are coming,” Wasson said in a phone interview Saturday afternoon.
The contest will pit the state’s third- (North Shore) and fourth-ranked teams (Carroll) in Class 5A, according to the most recent Associated Press poll.
According to the Galena Park ISD website, schools will remain closed through Wednesday. Also mentioned is that changes and cancellations have been made to extracurricular activities.
The contest could be an epic one with North Shore going for its 73rd consecutive regular-season win that would snap the record set by the Dragons in 1994.
The game will also not be broadcast on FSN because TCU at Oklahoma is being shown at that time.
Carroll has also added a game to replace the cancelled game with Houston Bellaire. The Dragons will host Katy Cinco Ranch Oct. 3, Wasson confirmed. Time for the game hasn’t been set but Wasson said it could start early at 6 p.m.
