Police arrested a 17-year-old Little Elm resident Tuesday on reports he sexually assaulted a 7-year-old girl while she was at his mother’s house in Little Elm.

Brandon Terrell Funches, also known as Bubba, faces a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child based on investigators’ interviews with a Little Elm mother and her daughter who said that Funches reportedly “put his private part in her tee tee,” a term the girl used for her vagina, and would try to sodomize her as well, according to the arrest warrant.

Family names are not used in order to protect the identity of the victim.

Funches, a Little Elm High School senior, is the nephew of the owner of the day care center, and would occasionally visit her Carrollton home while the girl was in her care, according to police.

The girl’s mother told police that Funches’ mother watched the children over the Memorial Day weekend at her home in Little Elm. The victim’s mother said that her daughter told her Aug. 28 that Funches assaulted her there, according to the warrant.

In March or April, the mother allegedly took her daughter to the General Children’s Health Clinic “because she was saying that her private parts hurt,” according to the warrant. Her mother noticed that her vagina was swollen, red in color, and had small bumps, but believed bath soaps or wiping the area too hard after using the bathroom caused the symptoms.

A forensic interviewer met the mother and her daughter Monday at the Children’s Advocacy Center for Denton County in Lewisville and heard more details of the assaults.

Sgt. John Singleton of the Carrollton Police Department said they were investigating the case and trying to find out if the in-home day care center was registered. Texas does not require in-home day care centers to register with the state.

He said in their investigation, he could not yet name the person they suspect of sexual assault.

Funches was released from Denton County Jail on a $65,000 bond Wednesday.
