Greater Lewisville Arts Council presents 2008 Angel Awards

The Greater Lewisville Arts Council presented a total of ten 2008 Angel Awards in a ceremony Sunday afternoon at the Crawford Center for the Arts in Lewisville.


Those attending the event, hosted by the Actors Conservatory Theatre, were treated to a presentation of Glinda of Oz, following the awards presentations.

Karen Westphal, arts council chairman, presented each award following a reading by Michael Clay about each award winner.

The winners included:

John Damian Sr., of the Greater Lewisville Community Theatre, has been associated with the GLCT for 10 years in a variety of capacities. He serves as technical manager for the theater and has been lighting designer for many of the shows, including “The Sound of Music,” “Cactus Flower,” “The Foreigner,” “The Rainmaker,” “Guys and Dolls” and “84 Charing Cross Road.” He has also served as master carpenter on set building for several productions. He also is facility manager for the building.

Heike Cullum, of Highland Village, is the costume mistress for the LakeCities Ballet Theatre. She has been involved with the ballet theater for 10 years and has been in the lead role of “The Nutcracker.” She and her husband, Munro, have a 16-year-old dancer, Brianna, and a 14-year-old soccer player son, Colin.

Denise Feeney has joined forces with the Lakeside Arts Foundation to provide a series of public art sculptures to help beautify the city of The Colony. A resident of The Colony since 1983, she operates Stained Glass Unlimited, which is celebrating its 25th year offering art-glass products. She designs, constructs and installs custom residential stained glass windows and panels.

Grace Brenner and Johnny Arnold, of the Lakeside Community Theatre, were honored for their contributions to the arts. Brenner has served as secretary for the LCT board of directors and wears many hats, including running the box office, concessions, etc. Arnold, as master carpenter, has built sets for the LCT the last two years and has laid out plans for the haunted house both last year and this year.

Lyn Cleghorn originally joined the Lewisville Lake Symphony as a box office volunteer and is currently president of the Guild. She writes municipal and foundation grants and has served as co-chairperson for the symphony’s two major fundraising events for the past two years.

Sally Neel became the artistic director for the Musical Feast Choral Society in 2006. Since 1976, she has served as organist and choir director at several Texas churches and has directed a citywide girl’s handbell choir. She also served as organist for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s European concert tour in honor of J.S. Bach’s 200th birthday in Leipzig, Germany.

Christine Donaldson became involved with the Actors Conservatory Theatre in 2004 and has volunteered in a variety of capacities, including editing materials for the theater, leading parent meetings, acting as program coordinator, serving as makeup coordinator and designer, and as assistant director. Since spring 2006, she has been on the board of directors and served as treasurer for two years.

R’Lene Winters enjoys publicizing Visual Art League activities. She graduated from the College of Dupage and continued her education at the Art Institute of Chicago and Governor’s State University in Illinois.

The CU7 marketing team of Fisery Credit Union Division was chosen to receive this year’s Community Service Angel Award. The team supports the promotional needs n including advertising, public relations, events management, etc n for seven business lines that comprise Fisery’s Credit Union Division.
