The Collin Theatre Center in Plano has announced casting for the upcoming regional premiere of "The Ruby Sunrise," which includes Jon Christie of The Colony.
"The Ruby Sunrise" is an inventive new play by Rinne Groff about the advent and power of television by Rinne Groff. The play begins in 1927. A scruffy teenage girl hides out in a barn in rural Indiana, where she scrounges electronic parts and constructs the first television set. Could this have really happened? If this were the truth, how many people would be allowed to know about it? From the story of young Ruby in Act One, the audience is suddenly thrust into the world of 1950s New York and the Golden Age of Television. In this world, there are even more surprises. There are also lots of laughs, although these are painful at times. Groff makes us wonder what we're thinking now, as young Ruby explains how television will change the world. Directed by Gail Cronauer of Dallas (Flaming Guns of the Purple Sage).
The cast and crew for "The Ruby Sunrise" includes artists from across the DFW Metroplex: Christin Felts (Garland); Bailey Frankenberg (Denton); Sky Williams and Hana Goff (Flower Mound); Jon Christie (The Colony); Jerry David Wise (Yoakum); Kim Borge, Bekah Fletcher and Brandt Gentry (Plano); James Chandler and Tomorrow (McKinney); Corey Gray (Oklahoma City, OK); Rachel Vance (Keystone Heights, FL); Nolan Martin (Celina); Jason DeArmond (Highland Village); Blake Blair and Michael Darr (Dallas); and Arnulfo Diaz (Grand Prairie).
