An accident involving two motorcycles left a grisly scene of chaos and destruction on the northbound U.S. 75 frontage road Saturday night.
The accident occurred at 11:40 p.m. on the northbound U.S. 75 frontage road north of White Avenue. McKinney Police Lt. Scott Brewer said one of the motorcycles ran over the large piece of wood left in the road and lost control of their vehicle. Accident investigators are still trying to determine if the first motorcycle crashed into the second after losing control or if the second motorcycle also ran over the railroad tie. The third motorcycle in the group was able to avoid a collision.
Both motorcycles had two people riding on each of them and all four were thrown from the motorcycles after the drivers lost control of their vehicles. The accident spread debris all over the roadway, everything from clothes to part of the wrecked motorcycles. Some small pools of blood could also be seen on the roadway.
McKinney police responded to the accident and blocked off the frontage road from the White Avenue intersection and set up two landing zone for medical helicopters. First responders administered CPR to one of the victims as helicopters rushed to the scene.
Several bystanders stood around the accident in a nearby parking lot before police even had a chance to cordon off the scene with yellow police tape and watched as police and fire officials conducted their investigations, rushed to save the injured victims and cleaned up the roadway. None of the bystanders said they witnessed the accident.
Brewer said he expected the roadway to be closed for several hours as crews clean up the roadway and investigators reconstruct the accident for their reports.
