McKinney: Northbound U.S. 75 closing for construction
The highway will undergo preparations for preliminary road construction Monday.

The northbound side of U.S. 75 will close so state construction officials can start work on a preliminary bridge in preparation for the start of preliminary construction.
TxDOT officials said the closure is required to “place temporary work zone pavement markings and concrete barriers in advance of a temporary bridge construction on U.S. 75.”
City officials confirmed earlier this month that construction crews and contractors started the first phase of the U.S. 75 expansion project, starting with the U.S. 380 and U.S. 75 intersection expansion.
Jack Carr, McKinney’s director of engineering, said TxDOT officials started surveying the U.S. 380 and U.S. 75 interchange as the first official phase of the expansion project. Surveyors started “setting stakes” Nov. 4 in preparation for the start of construction.
The project will place a total of eight lanes on the intersection including two extra lanes on both directions of U.S. 380 and two extra lanes on both directions of U.S. 75 from White Avenue to Taylor-Burk Drive. The expansion will also add an extra lane to each service road.
City traffic officials will work with TxDOT to provide drivers alternative routes and detours during the first phase of the construction by organizing new routes through city streets, Carr said.
TxDOT placed electronic warning signs in both directions near the U.S 75 and U.S. 380 intersection.
Traffic will be detoured to the frontage road during the road’s closure and contractor personnel will be present in the area to help with the diversion of traffic, according to a released statement.
TxDOT officials apologized for the upcoming road closure.
“TxDOT and Texas Sterling Construction Co. would like to apologize in advance for any inconvenience, and thank area drivers, local businesses, the City of McKinney, and Collin County for their continued patience and cooperation as crews work diligently to complete this project as soon, and as safely, as possible,“ TxDOT Public Information Officer Kelli Petras said.
