New court gets new judge
Texas Gov. Rick Perry appoints private practice attorney Jill R. Willis to Collin County’s new district court.

Collin County not only had its ninth district court but its ninth district court judge.
Willis will be sworn into the new court in January of 2009 and serve as the judge until the 2010 general election.
Willis works as a private practice lawyer out of Allen. She previously worked for the firm of Strasburger and Price and clerked for a federal judge in the U.S. Eastern District of Texas court located in Sherman. She is also a member of the Judge Paul Brown American Inn of court, the Collin County Bar Association and the Collin County Bench/Bar Foundation.
She has previously served as a past chair of the Collin County Bench/Bar Conference and a past member of the U.S. Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Committee for the U.S. Eastern District of Texas. Texas Monthly magazine named her a “Rising Star” in 2005 and 2006.
She also received a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
Willis will be sworn into office along with eight newly elected and re-elected county officials in a special ceremony on Jan. 2 in the Central Jury Room of the Collin County Courthouse. District Court Judges Robert Dry, Mark Rusch and Chris Oldner and Justice of the Peace Johnny Lewis will be sworn back into their offices. Matt Shaheen and Joe Jaynes will be sworn into their seats on the Collin County Commissioners Court. Constables Paul Elkins and Charles Presley will also take the oath of office for their positions.
