Chamber to honor Frisco’s Top Guns
By Ann Marie Shambaugh, Staff Writer
Eminent local businesses will soar above the rest when the Frisco Chamber of Commerce honors the “Best of the Best” at its 25th Annual Awards Celebration. The chamber will honor Frisco’s leading businesses and residents in several categories in front of an expected crowd of 700 people.
The “Top Gun”-themed celebration will take off at 6 p.m. Jan. 31 at Embassy Suites Frisco, and it will feature several surprises that may be familiar to movie fans.
“Anybody who’s seen that move will be able to recognize a lot of things … related to the movie, such as some footage of the movie, some songs from the movie, and we might even see a Tom Cruise show up,” said Mike Simpson, 25th Annual Awards Celebration Organization Committee chairman and former Frisco mayor.
Other award include developer/development of the year, entrepreneur of the year, citizen of the year, the chairman’s award, the Spirit of Frisco, and a new category for community partner of the year.
“That is going to be recognizing that company that is a real part of the community because of their involvement in community activities of helping with sponsorships, donations, fund-raising, and just being a good community partner in all senses,” Simpson said.
Winning businesses are nominated by chamber members, and they must complete a survey that is reviewed by a five-member selection committee. The citizen awards are selected through a nominating committee comprised of previous winners.
Simpson said that he was honored to help organize the 25th annual celebration, which will take a look back in Frisco history for a quarter of a century. City leaders, past and present, are expected to attend.
“A lot has happened in this city over 25 years, and part of the theme will be recognition of the dynamic growth and change in Frisco,” Simpson said.
Tickets cost $99 per person for chamber members and $125 per person for non-chamber members. Tables may be purchased for $1,250. Businesses may also purchase table sponsorships or other sponsorship opportunities.
Although the celebration is one of the chamber’s largest events of the year, Simpson said it will be enjoyed by chamber members and non-members.
“It’s for everyone,” he said. “It’s for chamber members honoring their fellow businesses for their top performances, but it’s also for citizens who want to recognize, support, and honor the citizen of the year, the Spirit of Frisco award winner and Silver Citizen of the Year.”
