By Katie Knickerbocker, McKinney Courier-Gazette
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. So why will healthy McKinney seniors be dropping by Medical Center of McKinney over the next couple of weeks? The hospital is offering three free seminars aimed to educate, assist, and offer social interaction for McKinney seniors.
Schlund said they offer seminars on a quarterly basis that are typically well attended. The seminars coming up are Remembering When™, Medicare and You 2009 and Medicare 101. Friday January 16, the following seminars will be presented by Guardian Senior care:
Medicare and You 2009, 10 a.m. to noon,
Updates and information on coverage, tips on Medicare Advantage and the Medicare Savings Program.
Medicare 101, 2 to 4 p.m.
Information for new Medicare recipients (within their first year of coverage) about coverage, enrollment periods, Medicare Part D, Medicare Savings programs and Medicare Advantage plans.
The McKinney Fire Department along with Senior Select Home Health Services will present the Remembering When™ seminar about fire and fall prevention on Tuesday, January 20 from 11 a.m. to noon. Lunch will be provided at this seminar.
All seminars offered are free to attend. Schlund said the hospital has offered past seminars on heart disease, pain management, women and stroke, Medicare, emergency preparedness, joint pain, and more.
“Offering programs such as these, is a part of our mission and commitment to our community and our seniors. In addition we partner with doctors and agencies that provide service to the community as a part of their mission statement.”
All seminars will be held at Medical Center of McKinney, 4500 Medical Center Drive, in Classroom 3. For questions or to make reservations contact Kathy Schlund at (972) 369-1602.
