Denton County: Schlafly, Hutchinson due at Lincoln-Reagan Dinner

Published: Saturday, February 7, 2009 3:45 PM CST
The matriarch of the conservative movement, founder and national President of Eagle Forum, Phyllis Schlafly, will join the Denton County Republican Party for its annual Lincoln-Reagan dinner on Saturday, Feb. 21, at the DFW Hyatt Regency Hotel.

Schlafly is one of the conservative movement’s most respected leaders as well as the founder and national president of Eagle Forum, one of the country’s foremost influential conservative organizations.

As a personal friend of President Reagan, Schlafly is expected to have some special antidotes to share about him. Widely considered a powerful and eloquent speaker on current affairs, she also will share her perspective on national sovereignty under Obama and will be asking, “Are You Ready for Obama’s Change?”

An added bonus for dinner attendees will be the opportunity to hear Texas’ senior U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, who recently formed an exploratory committee to consider running for governor in 2010

“Because of the high caliber of our speakers and the overall quality of the event, the Denton County Lincoln Day Dinner has become one of the best attended Republican Party fundraisers in the entire state,” asserts Denton County Republican Party Chairman Dianne Edmondson. “Our Lincoln-Reagan Day Dinner has become THE political event of each year in North Texas.

Edmondson also said, As Denton County is one of the most conservative counties in the nation, it’s very appropriate that Phyllis Schlafly headline this event, as she is in the forefront of the conservative, pro-family movement in America.”

The gala banquet once again will be emceed by Mark Davis, WBAP radio talk show host and Dallas Morning News columnist, and also will feature a VIP reception which will provide the opportunity to visit with Schlafly and Hutchison as well as elected officials from across the state.

Special highlights of the event will include a live auction featuring jewelry, gourmet dinners, and all sorts of treasures plus the legendary silent auction filled with political memorabilia as well a wide variety of other items.

Individual tickets are $65, VIP Reception tickets are $150 and sponsored tables range from $1,000 to $10,000. Ticket and table sponsorship information may be obtained from the Denton County Republican Headquarters at 940-321-2671 or online at www.dentongop.org.

" I hate to break it to Dianne, but Denton County is NOT one of the most conservative counties in the nation. There are W. TX and other states's counties (OK) which are much more conservative than Denton Co. Additionally, as Denton Co. population increases, the county moves toward progressive politics with each election.

However, I encourage the Denton Co GOP to host ultrafundamentalists like Schlafly to their "Lincoln Reagan" dinner. Dianne and the Denton GOP obviously hasn't turned on any TV news since Nov 4, when the country showed that it is tired of this kind of exclusionary, racist, sexist, mean politics. So you all keep catering to the ultra-right, Dianne--that just leaves all the independents and all the progressives to us Democrats. "
