The deadline for filing as a candidate in the May 9 Lewisville City Council special election ended at 5 p.m. Tuesday, with three candidates having filed during the filing period.
They are John Gorena, Margie Rochelle and TJ Gilmore. The winner will replace Dean Ueckert who is not seeking re-election to Place 4, but instead is running for mayor to replace Gene Carey, who is not seeking re-election.
The deadline for filing as a candidate for mayor and Place 2 in the regular May 9 city election is 5 p.m. Monday. In addition to Ueckert, Winston Edmondson Jr. and Brandon Bertrand had filed by late Tuesday for the mayor position. Place 2 incumbent David Thornhill has filed as a candidate for re-election. As of late Tuesday, he had no opponent.
The deadline for filing as a candidate in the May 9 special election for Place 4 is this coming Tuesday, March 3. The deadline for filing as a candidate in the regular election is Monday, March 9.
Lewisville City Secretary Julie Heinze said state laws set different filing deadlines for special elections and regular elections.
Whoever replaces Ueckert in the Place 4 position will serve out the one year remaining on his term. Ueckert will continue to serve in Place 4 until his replacement has been sworn in. That could come following the May 9 election, or following a runoff election on June 13, if one becomes necessary.
Early voting will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 27 to May 1, except for Saturday, May 2, when it will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Early voting will also be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 4 to May 5
Voting will take place at Lewisville City Hall at 151 W. Church Street; Lewisville Municipal Annex at 1187 W. Main Street; and at the Memorial Park Recreation Center at 1950B S. Valley Parkway.
