Candidates in the May 9 election have hit the ground running, campaigning in hopes of being elected without a June 13 runoff being necessary.
The deadline was Monday for filing as a candidate in the regular Lewisville city election and was March 3 for the special election to fill the Place 4 council seat.
Only one city council incumbent has drawn an opponent. That is because incumbent Mayor Gene Carey has chosen not to seek re-election and incumbent Place 4 Councilman Dean Ueckert is running for mayor, instead of seeking re-election to his regular seat.
However, there are three running against each other for the office of mayor, and three running for Place 4.
Shelley Kaehr filed Thursday as a candidate for Place 2 on the Lewisville City Council, dashing incumbent David Thornhill’s hopes of having no opposition.
Both of them, as well as most of the candidates, have Web sites, stating their views, giving their biographies and other information. Kaehr’s Web site is www.shelleykaehrforcouncil.com and Thornhill’s is www.thornhillforcouncil.com.
Ueckert, who also filed on the first day as a candidate for mayor, has since drawn two opponents. Winston Edmondson Jr. and Brandon Bertrand have also filed as candidates for mayor.
John Gorena, TJ Gilmore and Margie Rochelle all want to fill the Place 4 seat being vacated by Ueckert
The winner will serve out the one year which will be remaining on Ueckert’s term.
