Voter registration deadline April 9 for May 9 elections

Any qualified voter who is not yet registered must do so between now and April 9 in order to be eligible to vote in the May 9 city and school elections.

Applications may be picked up at several post offices and libraries in Denton County, according to Randi Geistman, chief deputy in the Denton County Elections Administration Office.

Also, people may register online by going to www.elections.dentoncounty.org, and then clicking on the secretary of state. An application is available there, which may be printed out, filled out and mailed to: Elections Administrator, P.O. Box 1720, Denton, Texas 76202.

In order to be eligible to vote, a resident must be a United States Citizen, at least 18 years old on Election Day, not a convicted felon (unless sentence, probation and/or parole have been completed) and not declared mentally incapacitated by a court of law.

Voters may check their registration status at www.VOTETEXAS.org or by calling 1-800-252-VOTE (8683).

Voters in Lewisville, Flower Mound and Highland Village will be voting on city council candidates and for Lewisville Independent School District school board candidates. Also, voters in Highland Village will be voting on proposed amendments to the city charter.

Council candidates in the three cities are as follows:

Lewisville council n For mayor: Winston Edmondson and Brandon Bertrand; Dean Ueckert. Place 2: David Thornhill; Place 4: TJ Gilmore, John Gorena, Margie Rochelle.

Flower Mound council n Place 1: Steve Dixon. Steve Lyda; Place 3: Bob Butler, Claudio Forest, Mike Wallace; Place 5: Rick Cleland, Angie Cox.

Highland Village council -- Place 3: Jeannette Collier, Charlotte Wilcox; Place 5: Patrick Davis; Place 7: Bill Meek, Bill Towe.


LISD school board -- Place 1: Tom Ferguson, Kevin Gies; Place 2: Christine Boudreau, Kevin Davis, Vernell Gregg.
