Highland Village cancels league games for youth sports associations
Submitted Report
The city of Highland Village is cancelling all organized league games for youth sports associations, effective May 1-10. Unless further notified, games may resume on May 11.
The city of Highland Village has been monitoring the information available related to swine flu and the Denton County Health Department’s recommendation that residents avoid large or group gatherings when possible.
“The swine flu is a ‘new disease.’ As health care professionals, we are still learning about the spread and prevention of swine flu. This virus normally infects pigs but has changed itself to infect humans. The potential for rapid spread and complications make this a pressing public health concern,” said Dr. Scott McDearmont, Highland Village mayor pro tem.
DCHD makes the following recommendations to reduce the spread of infections, such as swine flu:
*Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
*Stay home when you are sick.
*Cover your mouth and nose to reduce the spread of germs.
*Wash hands thoroughly and often.
*Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
*Avoid large gatherings.
Symptoms of swine flu in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human flu and could include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people have also reported diarrhea and vomiting associated with swine flu.
If a resident is concerned about symptoms they are experiencing, the regular health care provider should be contacted.
Regular updates on the current swine flu status in Denton County and current recommendations, provided in both English and Spanish, can be accessed through the Denton County Swine Flu hotline at 940-349-2584.
