Parks and Rec cancels activities
From staff reports
The City of The Colony's Parks and Recreation Department released a statement on Thursday seeking to ensure residents that it is taking numerous precautions in response to the recent swine flu outbreak.
After receiving notification that Lewisville ISD had cancelled all extracurricular activities until May 10, a decision was made jointly between The Colony Parks and Recreation Department and all local youth sports associations, in conjunction with public health officials, to cancel all youth league games at the city's athletic facilities through May 6.
This includes games for TCYSA, TCYFA, TCSA, TCLL, and youth volleyball. Sports practicies for all athletic teams are optional and left at the discretion of the coach and team parents.
This decision was made to mirror LISD's efforts to minimize the risk of exposure to the virus by limiting group and community activities.
Symptoms of the swine flu are similar to those of regular or seasonal flu and include fever, fatigue, lack of appetite and coughing. Some with swine flu also have reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Centers for Disease Control Emergency Management and Health Officials say that everyone should follow standard precautions to reduce the spread of any respiratory illness. Stay home when you are sick to avoid spreading illness to others; cough or sneeze into the crook of your elbow or a tissue and properly dispose of used tissues; wash hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
In the event that you or someone in your family should have any of the above symptoms, it is recommended that you seek immediate medical attention. In addition to seeking medical attention, it is highly recommended that you stay at home.
After consultation with a medical provider, the city requests that the Parks and Recreation Department be notified if you have participated in any of its activities within the last month and are considered a potential carrier of the virus.
