Railroad museum set for Frisco (SLIDESHOW)
By Jan Bellamy, Staff Writer
An old sound will ring anew in Frisco in the next few months: the sounds and the sights of railroad track being laid for the new site of the Museum of the American Railroad.
Frisco City Council’s May 5 meeting included a 6-0 vote of approval of resolutions authorizing the city manager to execute development and leasing agreements with the Museum of the American Railroad for property south of the current Heritage Museum and city municipal building.
The multi-acre site is just south of Cotton Gin Road and the city’s municipal building.
The tracks are expected to be complete with the engines rolling in within a year. The move of the collection along the tracks is expected to draw worldwide interest and visitors to Frisco.
In addition to the trains, historical buildings will be moved to Frisco. And museum supporters will also conduct a capital campaign to raise $20 million to build a museum building borrowing architectural elements from those of the city's municipal building and Frisco Square.
