Eric Yang, a seventh-grader from Griffin Middle School in The Colony, won the National Geographic Bee today in Washington, D.C.
"We're so proud of him," said Marsha Cobb, LISD Social Studies specialist.
School district representatives Linda Krause and Ellen Wandtke accompanied Yang on his trip. They told Cobb that he did not miss a single question in the final round.
The finals were hosted by Alex Trebek of the game show "Jeopardy!" A video of Eric answering the winning question is posted on the National Geographic Web site, http://kidsblogs.nationalgeographic.com/kidsnews/.
Yang's victory earns him a $25,000 college scholarship, a lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society, and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.
