KLB volunteers pick up almost two tons of trash

Keep Lewisville Beautiful (KLB) had its 23rd annual Spring Clean Up event last Saturday

A total of 235 volunteers came out bright and early to help clean the city. After the last bag was brought in and counted, the total came to 190 bags of trash, weighing in at almost two tons.

Awards were given out at the event as well as many great door prizes. The Travathan group won for the youth small group.

People to People Ambassadors won for the most trash in the youth large group category. The Williams family won the adult small group category. Completing the list for adult large group with the most trash collected was a tie between two separate teams.

The team from Texas New Mexico Power Company with 40 bags and the Lewisville Police Department picked up 40 bags of trash and the Lewisville Police Department was awarded with the first place for most trash removed by an adult large group, while Texas New Mexico Power Company was awarded a trophy for the most unusual trash.

An honorable mention was added the day of the event to also recognize the group with Ms. Pluff with Durham Middle School for bringing in 2,165 cigarette butts!

Coralee Lennert, KLB executive director, said, “Volunteers enjoyed a free fun-filled day to include a hot dog, chip, soda, and Bluebell ice cream treat lunch, a Keep Lewisville Beautiful t-shirt, face painting, goodie bags, and many door prizes including bikes, gift certificates, paper recycling factories, and many outdoor activity items like camel packs. Volunteers also enjoyed the reading of the Tree City USA proclamation and in celebration, several trees were given away.”

“Keep Lewisville Beautiful would like to thank all of the volunteers, and sponsors who helped make this event possible,” Lennert said. “A big thank you to LISD, The city of Lewisville, Interskate, Calloway’s, Lisa Weaver, Wal-Mart #5092, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Medical Center of Lewisville, Aveda, Lewisville State Bank, Jumpin Java, CCA, Tierney’s Tavern and Grill, Chick-fil-A, Prestige Concrete, Waste Management, Allied Waste Management, Blue Bell, Premier Gardens, Lewisville Lettering, Firestone, and an anonymous donor for all that you contributed.”
