A woman who darted from a police officer into traffic in the 1500 block of North Interstate 35E in Lewisville about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer truck.

Capt. Todd Taylor, of the Lewisville Police Department, said an officer on routine patrol saw the woman standing in the center of the northbound service road. He said the officer stopped and asked the woman if she needed assistance.

“The duration of the contact was only about one minute long when, without warning, she darted away from the officer and into the northbound traffic lanes,” Taylor said. “The woman was struck by a tractor-trailer. The truck driver immediately called Lewisville police dispatch to report that he had just struck the woman.”

This incident is still under investigation. The victim is a white female who appears to be in her 20s. She has not been identified.
