Fireworks believed to have started house fire
By Chris Roark, Staff Writer
The Flower Mound Fire Department responded to a fire Saturday night on the 3200 block of Oak Meadow Drive that officials believe was started by the use of fireworks in the area.
Firefighters received a call at 10:46 p.m. and arrived shortly after to battle a fire that caused about $120,000 to the home. The home was occupied by a man and a woman, and the woman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, said town spokesperson Mark Wood.
Wood said the fire was reported extinguished at 11:02 p.m.
Wood said the family will be displaced for a few months.
“Our firefighters arrived promptly at the scene to quickly extinguish the fire and minimize as much damage to the residence as possible,” Wood said. “Thankfully the occupants were able to exit their home, and all the lives were saved.”
In the days leading up to the Independence Day holiday, the fire department had discouraged residents from using fireworks anywhere in town since it is dangerous and illegal.
The Lewisville Fire Department sent two units to assist in battling the fire.
There were no other house fires reported in Flower Mound over the weekend, though the department helped extinguish a fire Friday on the 700 block of Oakley in Lake Dallas.
The three-alarm fire drew in units from six area departments.
