Southlake restaurants open doors for good cause
Christina Rowland / Staff Writer
Twelve years and still going strong is something not only to be proud of but to brag about. KRLD restaurant week will be starting August 17.
The event features over 120 DFW upscale dining restaurants that are lowering their prices all in the name of charity. Each restaurant will offer a three course meal for $35, $7 of that $35 will go directly to the North Texas Food Bank and Lena Pope Home (a Tarrant County charity). Last year the event raised $440,000.
Bo Dorton Trucklucks partner says, “It’s a great cause.” and Rick Shew of Kirby’s says, “We like participating in Restaurant week because we like the organizations associated with it.”
Both restaurants said they have had great experiences with restaurant week in the past and will continue to participate.
Restaurant week started out started out as just a single week, but over the years the popularity has grown the event has expanded.
“Last year we added KRLD Restaurant Week “Preview” which starts August 14th nthe weekend before and is the Restaurant Week menu plus a signature drink each restaurant comes up with made with either 10 Cane Rum or Grand Marnier for an additional $5.00,” said to the founder Marianne Howells.
The event has also lengthened from one week to two and this week there is an optional third week that restaurant can choose to participate in. Both Southlake restaurants will stay open the full three weeks from August 14 through September 6.
“It’s such a wonderful way to advertise,” Dorton said.
He said it opens up his restaurant and all upscale restaurants to diners that ordinarily might not come in and dine and he often sees repeat customers after the event ends.
Shew said the event is a great way for his chef, Daniel Nemec, “to showcase his talent.”
Each restaurant chef prepares a special menu that his only offered for restaurant week.
The three course meals have multiple options so there is such to be something that fits everyone tastes buds.
Trulucks will feature such things as Lobster and Leek soup as one of the four first course options, Butter-Poached Prime Sirloin as one of the second choice options and Carrot Cake as one of the third course options.
Kirby’s will feature such things as Applewood smoked bacon and mushroom salad as a first course option, Alaskan King Crab Filet Chimichurri as a second choice option and Belgian Dark Chocolate Lava Cake as a third course option.
Each restaurant will also have an optional fourth course that can be purchased for $7 or diners can spend $25 at Central Market prior to August 30 and receive a voucher to have their fourth course free.
Central Market is a partnering sponsor of the event again this year and we will feature chef demonstrations (new this year) in their stores from select restaurant participating. To find out the demonstration schedule visit the Restaurant Website at http://www.krld.com/pages/2561351.php A complete list of participating restaurants can also be found on the site.
