Drug shipment reported stolen from McKinney
By Danny Gallagher, McKinney Courier-Gazette
A California-based drug company issued a nationwide warning about a shipment stolen from McKinney.
Dey, a subsidiary of Mylan, lost two lots of Albuterol Sulfate Inhalation Solution from a tractor-trailer somewhere in McKinney and issued a warning about its usage.
The company based in Napa, Calif. said the single-dose vials of the solution each displays a product number, 49502-697-29, and the "Dey" brand name on the carton. Each carton contains 30 3 ml vials.
The missing cartons pose a serious health risk if they are used, the press release said.
"The products in the stolen cartons could represent a health risk because the required temperature-controlled supply chain may have been broken. Products from these lots should not be dispensed, sold or used."
Dey spokesmen urged patients "from purchasing any medication sold outside of legitimate channels."
Details of the theft could not be obtained since it is not known if the investigation into the theft is behind conducted by a local, state or federal agency. Representatives from the McKinney Police Department and the Collin County Sheriff's Office could not confirm receiving a report of the theft through their agencies.
Attempts were made to reach a representative of the company at the Napa, Calif. headquarters, but calls were referred to a public affairs office in West Virginia. Calls made to that agency were not returned by presstime on Thursday.
