Senior Adult Services moving to Farmers Branch
By Senitra Horbrook, shorbrook@acnpapers.com
After five years of aiding local seniors from their headquarters in downtown Carrollton, Senior Adult Services is packing up and moving to Farmers Branch.
“This is so exciting,” said Greg Gerendas, executive director. “It will be a brand new chapter in our history. Once we get settled, we will do everything possible to expand our ability to offer one-stop shopping for services for seniors and caregivers.”
Senior Adult Services is a non-profit organization that serves the needs of the aging population in Addison, Carrollton, Coppell and Farmers Branch. The organization is losing its lease in downtown Carrollton’s Gravely Center as the city of Carrollton prepares for DART’s Green Line and transit-oriented development in the area.
While Senior Adult Services is excited about the move, Gerendas said the move could not have come at a worse time for the small agency.
“The economic meltdown has made it more difficult than ever to raise money to help,” he said. “By now, you have probably heard from any number of worthy charities about the need for funds.”
Senior Adult Services’ goal is to raise $50,000 to help pay for the move and is asking for donations of any amount to help them meet the goal.
“It will also help us continue to provide the services which keep seniors and caregivers living independently in their own homes as long as possible,” he said.
