A single shot from a handgun rang inside Town East Mall Friday afternoon at approximately 4:43 p.m. The owner of Classique Jewelers Louis Fuentes fired the shot from his handgun at a suspect fleeing from his store a ‘snatch and grab’ type theft. The bullet ricocheted off shelving inside JCPenney department store and came to rest fully intact on the carpet near a rack of men’s sweaters. No one was injured and there was only minor damage to property.
Mesquite Police are searching for a suspect described as a black male in his mid 20s wearing a blue sweat shirt for the theft of the jewelry store. The suspect fled the mall in an unknown vehicle.
The police have arrested Fuentes and charged him with deadly conduct. Police spokesman Lt. Yates said that in his fifteen years on the Mesquite Police Department he could not remember an incident like this happening at the mall.
