McKinney soccer teams advance

McKinney Boyd, which won state in Class 4A last year, will take on Southlake Carroll in the girls Class 5A playoffs at 8 p.m. Friday at The Colony's Tommy Briggs Cougar Stadium.
Emily Reid, Kelly Monogue and Stephanie Dankel scored for Boyd.
In the boys area playoffs, Boyd will play two-time 5A defending state champion Flower Mound Marcus at 7 p.m. Friday at Justin Northwest Texan Stadium.
Boyd coach Daniel Lowe said move up to Class 5A for Boyd's boys team continues to be successful as they earned their third consecutive Bi-District championship.
Abby Smith scored three goals McKinney eliminated Greenville, 6-0, in the girls Class 4A playoffs on Tuesday. In addition to the Smith hat-trick, Amanda Frisbie scored twice and Hilliary Gupton added a goal.
Frisco plays the McKinney girls at 6 p.m. Friday at Plano's John Clark Stadium.
McKinney beat Sulphur Springs in the Class 4A boys playoffs on Tuesday in Forney at City Bank Stadium.
With two Jonathon Smith goals and one goal by Conrod Goulbourne, the McKinney Lions ( 20-2-4) set the single season shutout record, (20) with a 3-0 win against Sulphur Springs in the Area round of soccer playoffs.
McKinney coach Alan Pocock said the Lions prevailed despite having to defend countless throwins, free kicks and corner kicks on the narrow Forney City Bank Stadium soccer pitch.
Leading the defense in the record setting shutout were Connor Davenport in goal and Wes Curtis, Randall Smith, Enrique Moreno, Michael Lieber and Davis Weidow.
Assisting on Smith's goals were Vcmor Eligwe in the 33rd minute, Lalo Hernandez in the 74th and Hernandez again assisting in the 80th minute on Goulbourne's goal.
The Lions advance to the Sectional round with an enthralling crosstown matchup with McKinney North, 2-0 winners over Paris on Tuesday. Miguel Rodriguez and Tyler Grist scored goals for North.
The site of Friday night's 8 p.m. crosstown derby will be Plano's John Clark Stadium as McKinney's own Ron Poe stadium is hosting a track meet.
