McKinney basketball: Three games settled by one shot

Three McKinney boys basketball teams fell one shot short on Friday, and the McKinney North girls won big.


In Friday's boys basketball, Denison slipped past McKinney North, 55-54.

Frisco Centennial topped McKinney, 57-55.

Led by 31 points from James Erger, Princeton edged McKinney Boyd, 68-66.

In its two-point win, Princeton took a 33-30 lead into the second half before Boyd came out firing in the third quarter.

Boosted by Jordan McKinney, Zach Parr and John'Tray Lunch, Boyd outscored Princeton, 25-19, for a 55-52, lead entering the last eight minutes.

But, in the fourth quarter, Princeton managed 16 points to Boyd's 11. Derek Fort scored 14 and K.J. Satchell had 10 more for Princeton.

Parr finished with 13 points, Lynch 11, McKinney 18, Chris Sivells 6, Darius Coleman 6, Colton Fries 4, Alex Coffin 3, Jeff Blackman 3 and Byron Golston 2.

In District 9-4A, Frisco Centennial won by two points after a big third quarter. McKinney led, 27-23, at halftime only to see Centennial outscore them, 21-11, in the third period.

G.J. Vilarino led McKinney with 19 points.

McKinney scoring: Nico Mucci 10 points, Beau Smith 8, Prescott Mack 6, Ronald Rocquemore 4, Brandon White 3, Hunter Edwards 3, Jared Farley 2.

North fell by one point despite 16 points from Antonio Arnold and 11 from Abe Barnes. McKinney North scoring: Charles Parker 9, Josh Green 8, Chris Allen 5, Robert Potts 3, Bishop Cunningham 2.

The lead went back and forth with North up 14-13 after one quarter and down 27-24 at half. North came close by outscoring Denison, 16-13, in the stretch run.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

McKinney North, led by 16 points from Amanda Mason and 12 from Tahnie Hilliard, pounced on Denison to win, 65-28, on Friday.

Aundrea Gamble scored nine points. North scoring: Rachel Thomas 7, Sara Herbel 6, Avril Matthews 4, Ashley Deas 4, Lauree Stewart 3, Asa Livingston 2, Jemema Crayton 2.

North led, 23-10, after one, and 42-14, at halftime.

Katie Brakner scored 17 points as Frisco Centennial beat the McKinney girls, 54-43.

Kenzie Ogletree led McKinney with 14 points. McKinney scoring: Brittany Johnson 10 points, Madacen Maribo 8, Maddie Ogletree 4, Simone Murthil 4, Shelby Terry 2, Grant 1.
