Volunteer Day this weekend

From staff reports
The City of The Colony will host a day of giving back to the community with “The Colony Volunteers,” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14.
The volunteer efforts for this event will be directed in two specific locations, Stewart Creek Park and Bill Allen Memorial Park. At Stewart Creek Park volunteers will be assisting with maintenance on the nature trail, and at Bill Allen Memorial Park volunteers will contribute to the expansion of the disc golf course.
“We get phone calls and e-mails on a regular basis from people and organizations who are looking for ways to give back to The Colony, and so we have created this event to make it easy for residents to be a part of an effort to improve the community,” said David Swain, recreation manager for the Parks and Recreation Department. “We plan to offer ‘The Colony Volunteers’ events on a quarterly basis throughout the year, so this should give everyone the perfect opportunity to get involved.”
“We are hoping that we will get a big turnout for this event so that we can knock these two projects out. Both projects will make immediate improvements to the parks and added value to The Colony,” said Swain.
Deadline to register for Saturday’s Volunteer Day is noon on Friday, Nov. 13. For information, contact the Parks and Recreation Department at volunteer@tcpard.com or by calling 972-625-1106.
