Fasting McKinney pastor reaches donation goal
By Andrew Snyder, Staff Writer
Joel Miller can eat once more. Having overtaking the McKinney Food Drive goal of 30,000 non-perishable food items, ending up with 36,000, he has ended his hunger strike after 17 days without food. The drive hasn’t ended, though, as donations will continue to be collected at the Craig Crossing Shopping center until Saturday, Nov. 21 at noon.
A video posted to YouTube showed Miller enjoying his first meal and congratulating those that helped make the drive a success. He also encouraged citizens to take part in other food drives after his own comes to an end.
“So many of you have helped in very significant ways,” he said. “You’ve helped by loading food and telling others and collecting food from neighbors and making donations, praying, sponsoring the event and personally donating food.”
