Eagles tee off on competition
The Allen boys and girls golf teams hit the links Monday as part of the Dr Pepper Sherman Bearcat Invitational and both came away with top 5 finishes.
The girls led the way as the Lady Eagles didn’t use their usual lineup but still placed second. Allen’s cumulative score of 381 was 20 strokes back of Frisco Wakeland. The Lady Eagles rolled out a fivesome of Jessie Robinson, Hillary Scott, Amanda Mitchell, Erin Day and McKenna Boyd.
The boys from Allen, also using their second team, were at Hurricane Creek Country Club as well, tying for fifth in the team standings. The Eagles shot a 375, which was 28 strokes back of tournament winner McKinney.
Allen’s team was comprised of Hunter Wright, Evan Waygood, Chris Ayers, Grant Grafentin and Dawson Turechek.
“The boys battled through high winds and cold weather but found themselves finishing in the middle of the pack,” Gravley said. “There is still a lot of work to be done, but in the process of playing, all the boys gained experience in dealing with the elements.”
