Cirque du Soleil comes to Frisco Feb. 24

Frisco is home to Cirque du Soleil for five special days this month. Cirque du Soleil’s “Alegría” will be performed eight times at Frisco’s Dr Pepper Arena Feb. 24-28.
“Alegría” is internationally acclaimed and has entertained more than 10 million people worldwide since its world premiere in Montreal in 1994. In May 2009, “Alegría” launched a touring performance in arenas throughout North America. And the Frisco engagement comes in time to celebrate 25 years of Cirque du Soleil performances.
Tickets are available online at www.cirquedusoleil.com/alegria with pricing by age group, starting at $32, and the Frisco schedule is as follows: Feb. 24-28, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday with additional performances at 11 a.m. Saturday; 3:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 1 and 5 p.m. Sunday.
“There’s tension and struggle, and when that gets strained, there is contrast. Lightness and darkness, weightlessness and substance, power and weakness,” Webb said.
The performance will feature a cast of 55 performers and musicians from 17 countries and showcases aerobatic acts, including synchronized trapeze, aerial high bars and bungee aerobatics, which are all classic circus routines. The classic acts are contrasted with high-energy acts, including the Power Track and Russian Bars.
Additionally, the Frisco show will be unique in that it is modified according to the venues it performs.
“Every arena is a very different environment, and things like the lighting arrangements, size and height of the venue affects the show,” Webb said. “Each show is unique.”
To watch previous Cirque du Soleil performances, attendees would have had to travel to Dallas’ Fair Park for shows in a “big-top” setting, said Alegría Texas spokeswoman Lisa Endicott of Lisa Endicott & Company.
“The uniqueness of the show is the fact that the performers are able to adapt it to an existing venue,” Endicott said. “That allows the shows to come to a venue closer to home for a large part of the audience.”
Ticket prices are $40-$75 for adults, $32-$60 for children ages 12 and under, and $36-$67.50 for military, seniors and students. Premium tickets and family four-packs are also available.
