Youth sports: Lakeview Middle School finds success

The Lakeview Middle School eight grade girls Division 1 basketball team, led by coach Julie McMinn, competed in the Lewisville District Championship Tournament Feb. 18-20 with fantastic results.
The Lady Leopards defeated Forestwood, 38-14, on Thursday night in the opening game of the tournament.
Brittany O'Neal led the way for Lakeview with 11 points, while Whitney Apari chipped in eight. Ima Isham and Ciara Mendoza each added six points.
O'Neal and Lauren Ranney each posted 12 points with Apari scoring 10.
In the semifinal round on Saturday, Lakeview had to work hard to escape with a 34-30 win over Lamar.
Ranney again led in scoring with 13 and O'Neal added 10.
As a result, the squad faced off against Briarhill in the finals.
A shaky start left the Lady Leopards in a deep hole at the end of the first quarter, and despite battling back in the second half to outscore Briarhill in both the third and fourth quarters, Lakeview fell by 11 points with a final score of 50-39.
Ranney had 20 points in the finals, followed h Apari with 10 and Rachel Morgan with five.
