Coppell Lions Club to hold wine tasting event

The Coppell Lions Club will sponsor the fourth annual wine tasting party at the Sam Pack Antique Auto Museum, 2070 Diplomat Road, Carrollton at 7 p.m. Feb. 27.
“This is a fundraiser for the Lions Club,” said Ken Boatman, Coppell Lions Club program chairman. “We use the money to provide scholarships to Coppell High School seniors.”
The Coppell Lions have been giving out scholarships to seniors for 24 years, he said.
Guests of the Lions will have an opportunity to see the personal collection of cars owned by Pack, including a Model A, touring cars through the ages, modern race cars as well as the mustang used in the movie “Bullet.”
“Sam Pack will be at the event this year,” Boatman said. “He is the kind of guy that will talk with people about his cars.”
The first-year scholarship is for $1,000, with $500 scholarships given the next three years as long as the student maintains good grades, Boatman said.
The theme for the event this year is “Wines of Texas.” There will be three white and three red wines for people to taste, provided by the Messina Hof Winery and Resort from Bryan. Besides the wines, there will be cheeses and fruit available.
“We will have an ongoing raffle of bottles of wine during the wine-tasting,” Boatman said. “There will also be a $250 prize from the Messina Hof Winery to conclude the evening.”
The cost to attend the event is $35 per person and raffle tickets are $5. There is a limit of 75 people at the event, Boatman said.
