The Giving Garden of Carrollton
By Terri Barrett
The Giving Garden of Carrollton will break ground on Saturday, February 27th, with the help of many volunteers. The Giving Garden of Carrollton, located at the southeast corner of Hebron and Old Denton (just south of Kroger), is a non-profit community garden project jointly developed by Keep Carrolton Beautiful and Aldersgate United Methodist Church (AUMC). Consistent with the common vision of these two groups, the goals and objectives for the community garden are, to provide a sustainable community garden opportunity for the citizens of Carrollton without regard to their demographic or socioeconomic position.
GGC will require that gardeners donate 50% of their garden produce, based on either weight or count, to designated charitable organizations. Donations will be made to AUMC Food Share and Christian Community Action (CCA) which serves southern Denton County residents. Garden leaders will organize weekly collections of donations and arrange for donations to be delivered.
Gardeners participating in the community garden will find a welcoming environment with fun learning opportunities that lend a helping hand to others. For more information, email: garden@kcbadmin.org.
