McKinney in the movies

By Andrew Snyder, asnyder@acnpapers.com
The City of McKinney is getting set to hit the silver screen, as scenes from a romantic comedy in the works titled The Language of a Broken Heart are being shot in Historic Downtown. McKinney’s small-town atmosphere made it an ideal location for the film, in which the city serves as a stand in for Rockford, IL.
The Book Gallery is one downtown local featured heavily, as the film centers around a book store, and it’s what introduced the filmmakers to McKinney. There are also scenes shot in Churchill’s, which director and producer Rocky Bowell was introduced to on a bathroom break. He ran into Churchill’s to use the restroom, took a look around and decided to switch a scene he planned on shooting in a barroom in Dallas to the pub, which he said was a billion times better.
