Community services announces block grant funding

The Community Grants Advisory Commission, a volunteer group of seven citizens appointed by the City of McKinney, will hold public hearings and make funding recommendations to City Council under the City’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). McKinney expects to receive an allocation of $597,046 under this entitlement grant, funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The grant year will begin Oct. 1.
Applications for grant funds must be received by the CDBG office at 314 S. Chestnut St. in McKinney no later than Friday, April 30, at 4 p.m. The application and instructions may be downloaded from the City’s website, www.mckinneytexas.org.
Public service activities that are eligible may include, but are not limited to, the following: child care, transportation, youth programs, homeless prevention, senior services, mental health counseling, education, services for handicapped persons, substance abuse counseling and other activities under the Community Development and Housing Consolidated Plan Goals and Objectives. Agencies may also submit proposals for housing services, such as lot acquisition.
