Nicola’s, Culinary Connection offer $10K dinner party

Published: Wednesday, June 16, 2010 4:30 PM CDT
For some, a $100 dinner just won’t do the trick.

And for those people, two companies have teamed up to bring $10,000 dinners for 12 to a person’s home.

Pam Vincent, the owner of Culinary Connection, said her dinnerware sales company and Nicola’s Ristorante Italiano want the 10 Karat Decadent Dinner Party to be a special experience for those who wish to host this type of dinner without having to worry about cooking or cleaning.

“From our experience and our customers’ experience, there are times where you bring people in your home and you may not have everything in your home. This gives you everything you need,” she said. “I guess in a world of mass-produced everything, both Culinary Connection and Nicola’s focus on the heritage of the Italian lifestyle.”

The dinner will include a four-course meal prepared by chef Sascia Marchesi of Nicola’s and will leave the owner of the home with the dinnerware used for the meal.

However, one of the keys to the offering is the experience and memory it will leave guests with, she said.

“Individuals that recognize the handiwork and craftsmanship that go into this tabletop, that will last a lifetime, it’s not just blowing $10,000. It’s spending $10,000 on a memorable experience that you can re-live,” Vincent said.

Marchesi said he enjoys the showcasing that is involved and is always excited when he has the opportunity to do in-house parties.

“It’s an educational kind of thing that they see how the chef really prepares this stuff; how much time is involved, how much ingredients is involved,” he said.

The direct contact with guests is also something Marchesi said he enjoys, and having a glass of wine with guests while preparing food is not something he is able to do in a restaurant setting.

The ability to make the food special is different in this format as well. Not many people are educated about Italian food in the south, and this helps change the stereotype from just Caesar Salad and Chicken Parmesan, he said.

“It gives me a good opportunity to go over the board of my menu and do some special stuff,” Marchesi said.

The dinner particularly will be of interest to people celebrating special occasions or for business events, she said.

The two companies also believe an event like this could be a boost to the economy.

“I firmly believe part of our economy problem is people aren’t spending,” Vincent said. “We have withdrawn so much that it just hurts everyone down the line.”

She said as the former president of EDS for nine years, she has a good grasp of corporate life, and this event offers “a lot of value for your money.”

The dinner parties begin June 21, and people hoping to make reservations can call Culinary Connection.
