Homebuilders in FISD started 558 homes in the second quarter of 2010 pushing the annual total to 1,982 starts. The annual total is 47 percent higher than the rate seen from the third quarter of 2008 to the second quarter of 2009 (1,349 starts).
Annual new home closings are down 5 percent compared to this time last year from 1,830 to 1,919 homes. Closings in second quarter of 2010 totaled 554, which is 47 percent higher than the 2009 second quarter total of 378.
Homes sold with a federal tax credit originally had a closing deadline of June 30, 2010. The deadline was recently extended to Sept. 30. The extension only applies to homes already under contract by April 30.
