Cardenas is grand prize winner
By Jim Kilpatrick, jkilpatrick@acnpapers.com
Tania Cardenas of Coppell believes in going green, and in doing so, she captured the grand prize of the Green Mountain Energy video contest.
“I was really surprised when I found out we had won,” Cardenas said.
She and her husband, Richard, will receive a home makeover valued at $3,000 from Standard Renewable Energy and a $500 credit on her Green Mountain Energy electricity bill.
“I was so excited,” Cardenas said “We worked really hard on the video and had a wonderful time putting it together. We are so happy with the final product, and it feels good to put out a positive message about Green Mountain and how wind power is good for the environment.”
Cardenas’ video featured her family’s appreciation for wind power and how it inspired them to use the power of wind to reduce their overall electricity usage at home.
“We started around 6 a.m. and finished around 3 a.m. the next morning,” Cardenas said. “It was a lot of fun making the video.”
The couple are strong believers in renewable energy.
“We care about the environment,” Cardenas said. “We try to use energy-efficient light bulbs and appliances, limiting our water usage, using fans in the house and keeping the air conditioning set at a reasonable temperature.”
The video contest began in June and invited Green Mountain customers to submit videos telling why they chose to support renewable energy from Green Mountain.
The contest entries were judged on three criteria: passion for being a Green Mountain customer; creativity in how that passion was communicated; and authenticity and originality.
The Cardenas’ moved to Coppell two years ago and have been Green Mountain customers for five years.
