Family violence in Carrollton requires SWAT response

Over the weekend the Carrollton Police Department and SWAT team responded to a call of possible family violence assault that resulted in one Carrollton man being arrested.
On Sept. 26, at approximately 1:00 a.m. Carrollton Dispatch received notification of a possible family violence assault at 1811 E. Frankford Road. The caller stated that her sister had been assaulted by her boyfriend, 37 year old Reginald Michael Newman, inside of this apartment. The caller also stated that Newman was possibly armed with a handgun.
Responding officers attempted to make contact at the apartment however no one responded to the door. Officers could see movement inside of the apartment and later received information from family members that in addition to the female victim, a 23 month old child and a 16 year old juvenile were possibly inside of the apartment.
During a search of the residence officers located and seized a small caliber handgun. Officers are still trying to determine if the handgun was used during the alleged assault.
Newman was arrested and charged with Misdemeanor Family Violence Assault. While Officers are still trying to determine if the handgun was used during the alleged assault, Newman has been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, a third degree Felony. He is currently being held in Denton County Jail, with his bond set at $8,000.
