As cooler weather lingers just around the corner, a new Frisco location of Coffee N Cream beckons residents with the promise of premium coffee and delectable desserts, and for those in a hurry, a large-scale drive-thru makes this specialty bakery a to-go option. Owners John and Mary Ennen, McKinney residents for the last 16 years, opened their third family-owned and operated location at 11660 Eldorado Parkway in Frisco Sept. 13.
“Our business is high-end service with a small-town feel,” Mary said. “We love to cater to meet and exceed people’s expectations, and we’re very family-friendly.”
A promising nieghborhood hang out, Coffee N Cream is carving a place for itself in the café niche by garnering a family-oriented atmosphere. Each location has a Kids Korner designed to encourage artistic creativity with minitiature furniture, scrolls of paper to draw or paint on, and games to play. The shop features live music every weekend on Fridays and Saturdays for grown-ups to relax to.
The Ennens’ “mini chain” began four years ago at their downtown McKinney location and continued in the Village at Allen. With five professionally-trained pasty chefs on staff, the Coffee N Cream kitchen is constantly a host for new, creative ideas.
“Most recently, we introduced cake balls in a wide variety of flavors on the suggestion of one of our pasty chefs; they’re all the rage,” John said.
The round pieces of cake are typically dipped in chocolate and are about the size of a fifty-cent piece in circumfrence. Coffee N Cream has started to label their brand as CNC Own Baked, to let customers know their pastries are made fresh on location. The stores now provide special-order pastry items and desserts to hotels in Frisco and Allen on a weekly basis, and they specialize in custom cakes.
“We’ve done mini-wedding cakes for a bridal shower,” Mary said. “They were like petit fours extraordinaire; they were beautiful.”
The Coffee N Cream Mocha Brownie and Texas Pecan Bar have been award-winning desserts at both the 2009 Taste of Collin County and Experience McKinney events. The owners hope to maintain the title at this year’s Taste of Collin County, which is from 5 – 9 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Collin County Regional Airport.
“We are going to enter a Fall Flight, which includes a chai crème brulee, a pumpkin sponge with maple cream in the middle and a butterscotch pecan bar,” Mary said.
They will be distributing the Mocha Brownie with ganache center, chocolate chip cookies and the mild blend Toscano drip coffee as samples for the event. John said he considers the business to have the highest quality and freshest coffee beverages in the market, a claim that can be confirmed as Coffee N Cream was recently awarded “Best Cup of Coffee” by the Star Community Newspapers Reader’s Choice Awards.
John said the extensive catering menu and broad offerings are one of the best kept secrets at Coffee N Cream. They cater bakery items, box lunches, and breakfast and afternoon trays, and the growing bakery prides itself on having the best cookie in town among other products.
“Our cupcakes are to die for if you’re a cupcake fan,” John said. “We’re a place of simple indulgence.”
