Getting called out

The scene after Plano East’s 5-0 victory over Flower Mound Marcus was wild.
The Lady Panthers softball team had just won Game 3 of the Region I Finals to become the first Plano ISD softball team to qualify for state since East made it to the Class 5A State Finals in 1995 (just the program’s second year of existence).
I figured I would catch some flack down on the field as I had picked Marcus in our weekly VERSUS column. All the parents were nice though as I made my way down to the field, asking if we would be in Austin and talking about how exciting the win was. But then it happened.
I smiled after everyone looked at me and made sure to ask several of the East players how satisfying it was to embarrass people in the media who picked against them.
Aside from that minor bump in the road, it was a great scene after the game; Kalhoefer was pumped, even when she got the requisite jug of cold water poured on her, and the girls were ecstatic … this was one of the really good days on the job.
